Edward Curry is a Research Scientist and leads the Green and Sustainable IT research group (dgsit.deri.ie) at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (www.deri.ie). His research projects include studies of sustainable IT, energy intelligence, semantic information management, and collaborative data management. Edward has worked extensively with industry and government advising on the adoption patterns, practicalities, and benefits of new technologies.
Specialties: Autonomic Computing, Collaborative Data Management, Cyber-Physical Systems, Energy Intelligence, Event-based Systems, Linked Enterprise Data, Semantic Information Management, Sustainable IT, Technology Management, Web of Things.
Role in the team: Technical lead + Design and implementation of the Decision Support Model
Wassim Derguech is a Research Associate and PhD Student at Insight @ NUIGalway (http://www.insight-centre.org/). His research interest includes: BPM, SOA, Semantic Web Services and Semantic Information Management. Recently, he started to further research and investigate green and sustainable IT and energy and sensor data analytics. Within SENSE he was the technical manager and scrum master of the project. He was also responsible for the design and implementation of the Decision Support Model.
Role in the team: Event Processing
Souleiman Hasan is a PhD researcher at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics @ NUI Galway. His research tackles the problem of semantic coupling in event based systems and its effect on scalability in large scale heterogeneous environments such as the Internet of Things. He investigates the approach to the problem in the smart cities, power management, and water management domains. Within SENSE, he is responsible for the design and implementation of the approximate semantic event processing module for real-time analytics of energy data.
Umair ul Hassan
Umair ul Hassan is a PhD researcher at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics @ NUI Galway. His research tackles the adaptive assignment problems in crowdsourcing and its application to cyber-physical environments. He investigates the problem in the data curation, energy management, and spatial crowdsourcing domains. Within SENSE, he is responsible for the design and implementation of the task management and entity management modules for collaborative meta-data management and human-based actuation.
Enda Barrett is a Research Engineer at Schneider Electric Ireland, located at the Galway offices in Ballybrit, Galway (http://www.schneider-electric.com/site/home/index.cfm/ie/). Prior to joining the SENSE team, Enda completed a PhD in NUI Galway in the area of applying machine learning techniques to tackle cloud resource allocation problems for scaling applications. Within SENSE Enda is responsible for the design and implementation of the Data Integration Layer. This involves creating semantic models and transforming data from a variety of formats to the Resource Description Framework format. In addition Enda is also building an automated HVAC control solution using Reinforcement Learning. His research interests also include, statistical learning, parallel learning and cloud computing.
Role in the team: Development of web-based user interfaces
Willem Fabritius is a Research Associate at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics @ NUI Galway. As part of the Green & Sustainable IT group, his research focuses on user experience and persuasive design of information technology for promoting sustainable behaviour. Within SENSE, he is responsible for the development of web-based user interfaces for enterprise energy intelligence.
